Wagner Farms is using cutting edge equipment for modern farming methods. We use specialized planting equipment set up for No-Till or Min-Till planting, meaning we don't have to work the ground prior to planting. We also incorporate a new tillage practice into our No-Till system called Zone-Building. Zone-Building is exactly what it sounds like: we only till or work a strip of soil the width of the row we are planting. This zone is ripped with a heavy shank set for deep soil penetration up to 14" deep and works a width of about 10-12" to a shallow depth of 4-6". This zone allows for a reduction of soil movement, cutting labor, fuel and cost of production while increasing soil stabilization and erosion control, furthering the improvement of overall soil health by only working the needed area.
The unworked area between the rows is not touched and allows for better equipment support during wet weather. This reduction of soil compaction and working aids in better soil health and conditions. This also allows us to reduce pesticide use, increase the use of cover crops between rows and utilize new crops such as tillage radish to do biologic tillage.
We farm multiple crops which we rotate from year to year in a 5-year rotation. During that 5-year rotation we only plow the soil 1 time; the remaining years we use a combination of no-till and zone-till to plant our crops. For more info, please watch some of our videos on Facebook.
Sweet!!!!! Here it is the new toy in action...... Waited all winter to do this. Took me 8 years to buy one and now it is here. A 2 row model 132 Unverferth Zone Builder with Strip Builders and 4 press wheel zone firmers, Scraper kit, Shank protectors and Shatter wings...... SWEET! it does save time, fuel, labor and best of all is all I have to do now is plant the field in a few weeks. Enjoy. :) Oh by the way this field is the Winter Squash Field of which 6 acres will be for donations in the fall. I still need help from you to cover the cost of planting the crop. We need about $5000.00 in the next two weeks to get it planted correctly. Thank you Ron.Posted by Wagner Farms on Tuesday, April 28, 2015
Daikon Radish, biologic tillage, scavenger for minerals and fertilizer, Cover crop, oh and can be eaten. Watch this video and learn what these great root crops do for us. Then go back and see the other videos I have done about them. Farming just isn't about planting and harvesting crops. A whole lot more... A simple root crop have become an important tool in our tillage practices and planting system.. Thank youPosted by Wagner Farms on Thursday, November 19, 2015
Respect our signs. If you see a Posted sign, No Snowmobile sign or Property farmed by: sign, please RESPECT that sign. The crops planted might not be visible and if you trespass you may very well trample on our income. Also, it's the law: Posted – stay out. Our contact info is always on our signs – make a call and contact us prior to entering the property if you need to for some reason. It is better to call us and talk to us than the cops when they show up after we catch you there without our permission. Thank you for RESPECTING us.
The sign says our cooler uses UV light for product safety, this light is located inside the cooling coil and keeps the coil clean and the air pure and safe inside the cooler. UV lights are safe and affective in killing bacteria, fungus and other air borne problems.
Please DO NOT go inside the cooler and DO NOT look at the light ever, Dangerous for your eyes. Thank you
Wagner Farms does a lot of property work through out the season, including mowing ditches, road edges, digging and maintaining ditch and water control devices. If you see us working please give us the room to work. If you see us mowing along the road edges, please look for our SMV sign, flashing warning lights and keep back and only pass us if it is safe and permitted to do so. Slow moving tractors have the right to be on the road, you do not have the right to pass us on solid lines nor expect us to travel on the shoulder of the road. We are doing our part to insure safety and better environment for us to enjoy. Thank you and see you on the roads. Please share..
SMV signs, flashing warning light, over-sized equipment we have it all. Our SMV signs our always on equipment and kept up to date, reflective markings on all of our equipment indicate the width and edges of equipment for night time use, farming is a 24hour a day job, our equipment may very well be on roads during late nights or day time.
In most cases of road travel all of our equipment will have the state and federal minimum required markings, SMV, reflectors and always in the drive lane, unless there is room to pull the entire piece of equipment on to the shoulder to allow traffic to pass safely. Don't pass us on double solid line, blind areas, or single solids on the same side of the road, it is the law to yield to us and give us room to conduct farming in a safe manner.
Remember farm equipment is large, heavy and does not stop on a dime, meaning if you cut us off or cause an unsafe condition while passing us, we might not be able to stop or worse yet we might be killed by your mistake. Many Farmers have been killed or injured on the road because the other driver wasn't following the law. If you see an unsafe condition or act that we may have caused please point it out to us and we will correct the problem. The roads are two way streets, we each need to work together to insure everyones safety.
Finally remember Tractors and farm equipment most of the time travel at or below 25MPH, closure speed on our equipment is fast if your traveling at posted speed, don't wait till the last minute to slow down. Give us the room we deserve, we feed you, we provide you, all we ask, is you RESPECT us and work with us. At the end of the day a farmer wants to go home and be safe... Thank you
